Australian exchanges sustain firm trend
The continuing demand from London, the strength on Wall Street and the prospect of lower domestic interest rates combined yesterday to raiseshare prices for the fourth successive day on Australian stock exchanges, brokers said. Brokers reported that London orders favoured goldrelated miners and industrial sector interest was prompted by lower interest rates. B.H.P. 0.5. R., and C.R.A. were all 20c higher. North Broken Hill rose 25c, M.I.M. 14c and W.M.C. 6 cents. Nearly sAustl.4 million of M.I.M. shares were traded on the Melbourne exchange. The prospect of lower interest rate's caused investors to chase higher yielding issues. Banks, brewers, food, and tobacco stocks were in favour along with building industry stocks which would doubly benefit because of the boost to their industry from lower mortgage rates.
