Prince Yusupov, convinced of a divine mission to save Russia, attempted to murder Rasputin, the peasant mystic who was equally convinced of his divine mission. The bizarre incident in December. 1916, in the midst of the First World War, was overshadowed a few months later by the Russian Revolution.
