St Gallen shines in training

Special correspondentPalmerston North The classy St Gallen took the eye as a likely Pahiatua winner when he galloped impressively at Awapuni yesterday morning. St Gallen won well in his debut at Wanganui last month. He looks well placed to add to his record in the Toki Handicap. St Gallen will be ridden again by Paul Goss who enjoyed much success at the Wairarapa meeting. Goss rode four winners over the two day meeting and from 14 mounts he was in the money 12 times. One of his failures was on Amathusia whose saddle slipped. The trainer. Margaret Bull, has two highly promising horses in St Gallen and

the Wairarapa winner Engelberg. Yesterday St Gallen worked nicely over 1000 m on the plough with Warbon. They ran the distance in Imin 4s, the final 600 m in 40s.

Lone Hand and Glenmana came home strongly together over 1200 m in Imin 19.65, the final 600 m in 40s. Lone Hand has thrived since running a bold race in the Summer Cup at Awapuni. He will add a lot of interest in the 2ZA Pahiatua Cup. Noel Harris has the mount. Glenmana was far from disgraced when resuming in the Summer Cup. He has improved since and could be prominent in the Hatuma Lime Handicap. Brian Hibberd will ride him.

Super Tai was most impressive, running 1200 m in

Imin 15s, the final 600 m in 375. He looks better for recent racing and on this gallop he could go close in the Hatuma Lime Handicap. Sovereign's Ace is in the same race but his parttrainer, Alan Kaye, is not too happy with the weight and said yesterday morning that the last start Hastings winner was not a certain runner. He will consult with the owner first. Yesterday he ran an easy 800 m in 55.65, the last 600 m in 40.65. He would be a hard horse to beat should he line up. On the course proper which was fast Dakait was in top form when running 600 m in 365. This horse won well at Manawatu and has good prospects in the Makuri Handicap.
