Peak fancied in Wairarapa Cup

Special correspondent Wellington The Otaki trainer. Clem Bowry. has fashioned a superb record at Wairarapa meetings in recent seasons. That trend could continue tomorrow and. as an added bonus, the meeting is going to Bowry. Because of a building programme. the Wairarapa course at Tauherenikau can not be used, so the two days of the New Year meeting will be moved across the Rimutakas to Otaki. Bowry will saddle the favourite Peak, which came right into favour with a fast finishing third in the Manawatu Cup. It was a fine effort against a top class field.

Despa and Kiwi have both been a little disappointing lately but the ability of either is not in question. They should be Peak's strongest rivals.

Guinness, the mount of Maree Lyndon, should take beating in the Farmers Mauriceville Handicap, second leg of the double.

Guinness was third on a heavy track at Wanganui last time and that loss halted a winning sequence of four. Final Affair, which won well in a small field on the middle day at Awapuni. should be the biggest threat to Guinness. SELECTIONS 11.40: Maestro Mellay, Zingari, Mystic Nymph. 12.20: Norfolk Morn.
