Burletta takes time honours
Special correspondent Hastings
Burletta took the time honours in training at Hastings yesterday morning and looks a ready-made favourite for the Juvenile Handicap at tomorrow’s Hawke’s Bay meeting.
Fast work was done on the course proper and plough. The course proper is fast but the good sole of grass on it should provide a cushion for horses galloping tomorrow.
Burletta worked on the course proper, where the pegs were about 5m out from the inside rail.
Burletta, with Jim Cassidy up. sprinted 600 m in 35.35. She was doing her work exceptionally well and is right at her peak for tomorrow's 1100 m event. Gus
Clutterbuck has been booked to ride her as Jim Cassidy will be riding at Ellerslie. The other very fast time of the morning was recorded by Laughable, Turnaround and Flyboy. They sprinted 600 m on the course proper in 35.55.
Al Donte, which steps up to a middle distance in the Hastings Cup, ran 800 m yesterday morning in 51.75, the last 600 m in 38.95. Reveal covered 600 m in 37s in her final workout for the Wahine Handicap. The apprentice. Raymond Bailey, will ride her and can claim a full 4.5 kg allowance. Acraman was assigned two 600 m sprints in 38s and 39.25. Patrick Campbell has secured the services of John McGifford for the horse in the Otatara Highweight.
