December 29, seems capable of enabling employers ultimately to make half the engineering work force redundant. Coupled with modern agri-business, which encourages bigger and fewer farms and results in rural depopulation. it seems obvious that city popu lations will grow proportionately to the increase in unemployment. So the new technical changes are sharpening social tensions; as well as still continuing to run down limited fossil fuels. New Zealand is still in a unique position to give a lead to the world by developing and modifying technologies which will enable poorer countries to grow their own food, without continuing to denude the world of its finite resources. — Yours, etc., PATRICK NEARY. .
