Bakers’ strike over
Bread will be available at the Woolworths Shirley supermarket in Christchurch today after a bakers' dispute that had stopped supplies was settled last evening. ■ Six members of the Baking Trade Employees’ Union employed at the supermarket's Hot Bread Shop went on strike last Thursday after a colleague was dismissed for eating an overripe ' banana belonging to the company.
The banana was one of a batch from the supermarket’s fruit stands which was to be made into banana cake at the bakery.
The South Island area supervisor of Woolworths supermarkets, Mr John Maze, said last evening that the company had agreed to reconsider the incident "on a purely personal basis" pro-
vided the bakers returned to work. ' The union's area organiser. Mr B. W. Harding, said that the bakers would return to work, and that bread supplies would resume today.
