Innings victory
Canterbury B took just over half an hour to dismiss the Otago B tail-end batsmen and secure an innings victory, on the third day of their cricket match at Mosgiel yesterday. Resuming at 95 for the loss of eight wickets in its second innings, and needing 42 runs to make Canterbury bat again, Otago could add only 25 runs before being all out, for 120.
Canterbury had declared al 246 for eight wickets on Wednesday, in reply to the Otago first innings of 109.
The last two Otago wickets yesterday fell by catches by the wicketkeeper. Ash Hart, from the bowling of Chris
Abbott. John Wilson (29) was the only Otago batsman to provide any substantial resistance.
Garry Macdonald, with five wickets for 32 runs, was the best of the Canterbury bowlers. Abbott claimed three wickets for 20.
The convincing nature of Canterbury's win means that it can face its game against Wellington. starting tomorrow, knowing that it only needs first innings points to be assured of a place in the final of the B teams’ competition. Final scores: Canterbury B 246/8 dec., Otago B 109 and 120 (J. Wilson 29, G. Macdonald 5/32, R. McNally 2/ 42).
