Lady Luca due for win today

By G. K. YULE Lady Luca should gain reward for consistency with victory in the Reefton Cup at the Reefton Trotting Club’s meeting today. The speedy mare finished second in the main races at Westport earlier in the week and with average luck she should win today. Ansett was all out to beat Lady Luca on the first day at Westport, while on Tuesday she- beat all but Lopez Mac Faber over 2600 m. The extra distance in today's race should suit her. Ventre Hanover was fifth at Westport on Monday and fought on gamely for third on the second daay of the meeting. He is racing consistently and should be the one for Lady Luca to beat. The stablemates, Trevallen and Rapaki Lass, and Patrician and Straight Row appeal most of the others. Deborah Dundee, Our Mana and Repus News, all graduates from maiden company at Westport, should be the pick of the field in the second leg. the Rugby Handicap. All three will be trying to win and so qualify to start in a C2 race at Greymouth next Tuesday. A win at Reefton and another at Greymouth would earn them a $lO,OOO bonus.
