New soccer job for Menotti?
NZPA-Reuter Madrid The former Argentinian soccer manager, Cesar Luis Menotti has held talks in Madrid with officials of Bar--1 celona with a view to taking over as manager from a West German, Udo Lattek. Menotti, on a 24-hdur visit to the Spanish capital, met Barcelona’s president, Jose Luis Nunez. The Argentinian said he
would be prepared to take the job but did not want to unseat Lattek, who has a contract until the end of the season. The talks on the future management of Barcelona coincide with a crisis in the club because its $8 million Argentinian . star, Diego Maradona, is ill with hepatitis. Barcelona has lost its last
two games without the Argentinian striker and has slipped from second to fourth place in the first division table. The club are reported to be trying to re-acquire the Austrian star, Hans Krankl, sold to Rapid Vienna two seasons ago, to fill the gap left by Maradona who could be out. of action for the rest of the season.
