Injunction over control valve

PA Dunedin An interim injunction to prevent ■ a former export manager of G. Methven and Company, Ltd, manufacturing a self-actuating moisture control valve developed by Methvens has been granted by Mr Justice Cook in the High Court at Dunedin. His Honour heard submissions from Methvens that the invention belonged to them and to a London-based company, Auto-Wata, to whom they had assigned the world rights to make and manufacture the valve. Methvens claimed that the defendant. John Preston McFedries. was attempting to make the valve in Taiwan through his company, J. Preston and Company, Ltd. Auto-Wata were enjoined

as plaintiffs in the action. His Honour made the order against Mr McFedries and against Mr McFedries’ company, and he ordered priority to be given to the full hearing of the matter. Mr J. K. Guthries, for the plaintiffs, said Methvens owned the copyright; the article was developed during the course of Mr McFedries’ employment with that company. When the matter had been part-heard, Mr M. R. D. Guest presented a memorandum to the Court, consenting to an interim injunction against his clients, McFedries and J. Preston and Company, subject to Mr McFedries’ denials of allegations made against him by Methvens.
