Full range of AA service
The Automobile Association (Canterbury), Incorporated. now has additional premises next to the SIMU office in Riecarton Road, nearly opposite the Riccarton Mall. The distinctive new outlet opened yesterday, offering the full range of AA services, including AA Travel. AA Finance and the sale of motoring accessories. This range of sendees and the handy, suburban location are further enhanced by proximity to an office of the SIMU Mutual Insurance Association, official insurer for the AA (Canterbury). The opening of the Riccarton office follows the creation of a joint AA and SIMU office in the central city in May, and is in line with a policy of making AA services more readily available. The idea of being where its customers are is not new to the local automobile association. II has had mobile patrol officers and a network of
authorised breakdown garages for many years, and the technical service centre in Sydenham was established in 1973 to offer easily accessible tune-ups. standard and specialised vehicle checks, and pre-purchase checks to AA members. A mobile caravan has been functioning as an A A (Canterbury) office since 1976 in various suburban shopping centres and in holiday spots during the school holidays, to
supply members with maps, pamphlets and books and to enable other people to enquire locally about AA services - and join if they wish. Besides a wide range of touring maps available to members, there is a comprehensive reference guide to hotels, motels and camping grounds in New Zealand. Compiled in two sections, there is a South Island guide for southern members and a North Island Guide for north-
erners. both sections being updated and . distributed annually. The SIMU, which has an office next door to the AA's Riecarton Road premises, was formed as a separate company in 1926 to offer insurance specifically for motorists, but it now offers full household and property insurance as well. It has two other Christchurch suburban offices - Papanui and New Brighton.
