Galaxy mixup might cost club $15,000

The Canterbury JockeyClub stands to lose- between $12,000 and $15,000 from the mixup in the DB Galaxy Stakes at Riccarton on Friday. Mr Malcolm Aim. secretary of the club, said yesterday that his phones had been running hot ’ throughout the week-end There had been some abusive callers, he said, but most people sought answers to questions that arose from an unusual incident - the rerunning of a feature race and first leg of a T.A.B. double after the first contest had been declared void when some horses were left locked in the starting gate.

Mr Aim said yesterday that win-and-place ticket's purchased at the course on horses which were late scratchings from the DB Galaxy Stakes are refundable by the club. Quinella investments which included late scratchings for the race are also refundable. Holders of doubles tickets on Queen's Pal in the double on races 7 and 9 are entitled to a dividend of $2.35 regardless of which horses were selected for the second leg of the double.
