Industrial action delays ship
Industrial trouble will stop a paper company's ship from visiting Lyttelton this year. The 5561-ton Tasman Venture, owned by Tasman Pulp and Paper, Ltd, had been scheduled to arrive at port during the week-end. However, a dispute involving the crew means the ship will now probably not call at Lyttelton until next year. Normally she sails a Tauranga-Australia run. This is the second industrial dispute which has flared about the Tasman Venture recently. Lyttelton's two waterside unions, the Harbour Board Employees' Union and the Waterfront Workers' Union, recently disputed who would operate unloading equipment supplied by the ship. However, that problem was resolved and it had been hoped the Tasman Venture would have a trouble-free voyage this weekend. She was due to deliver 4460 tonnes of newsprint at Lyttelton and Dunedin.
