Newspaper returns to fold
PA Blenheim Control of the Marlborough Express Newspaper. Company, Ltd, has returned to Blenheim. The major part of the 50 per cent shareholding in the company owned by R. Lucas and Son (Nelson Mail), Ltd, has been purchased by Furness family connections. Existing family shareholders. together with Mr R. G. Rose, a director and general manager, have taken up all but a small portion which the ‘Nelson Mail’ is retaining, Mr D. M. Furness, the managing director, said today. Family members already hold the other 50 per cent, and he said he was pleased that control of the business would be in Blenheim hands, "But it is also satisfying to have the Lucas finally still involved. They, would have a seat on the board of directors, thus preserving the'
association which had been of mutual benefit during the past six years.” During this time the Express had been upgraded to a new Goss web offset printing press, improved its typesetting capacity, and moved into new office and factory premises.
