Cameron returns in form to Woodford Glen
A former four-cylinder saloon car champion. Colin Cameron, celebrated getting his broken leg out of plaster by winning two races in his class at the Woodford Glen Speedway on Saturday. Cameron's best drive came in the second race which he won after an exciting struggle with Les Bates (Chevette). Dick Byrne (Escort), and the prsent class champion. John Townshend (Chevette). Byrne held the lead for most of the race with the other three keeping close company. Byrne made one mistake when he went 100 wide on a corner and let Cameron and Townshend through. Cameron had been following Townshend to that point. Cameron finished second to Townshend in the third race, but his efforts were still creditable as he was driving another competitor's car. Cameron was awarded the “driver of the njght" prize. In the absence of the Canter-
bury saloon car team, which was in Dunedin for the second round ' of the South Islanu inter-provin-cial series, the remaining super saloon drivers competed in the six to eight cylinder class. Stephen Ware, in his Falcon, proved that he is worthy of being in the super saloon class when he recorded two well judged wins after starting near the rear of the field. Ware lowered the race record on both these occasions. However. because he is not registered in this class, the times cannot stand. Gerald Griffiths continued on his winning way in the stock cars when he won two races and recorded a second in the last race. Mike McSaveney ensured that the pattern of record breaking drives over recent meetings continued when he clipped o.ls off the rookie saloons six-lap record. The time now stands at 2min 33.375.
