Overseas soccer teams to visit Canterbury?

A! least two overseas soccer teams will be visiting Canterbury next year, says the chairman of the Canterbury Football Association. Mr Alan Fraser. Speaking after his association’s annual meeting Mr Fraser said a meeting would be held in February between representatives of the C.F.A. and its conterparts in Auckland and Wellington to discuss terms ior the games. Meanwhile, the profits made from international matches played in Canterbury this year had boosted the association's net worth by nearly $52,000 to $99,941.65. the meeting heard. The New Zealand v. Hungary game had netted $18,299.30 and the New Zealand v. Watford game $30,411.48. If this trend continued, Mr Fraser said that the interest gained from investment would put the association in a position where it could negotiate with the N.Z.F.A. for a full-time coach about 1983 or 1984. On a less favourable note, the condition of the association's main ground, at English Park, was cause for disappointment, said Mr Fraser. “I have approached the (Christchurch) city council this year and offered money for the upgrading of English Park but looking at the surface and the amount of work that has been done, the up-

grading has not been effective." he said. The council may be approached again on the matter before Christmas, he said. Items to take effect at the meeting included a reduction to 15 for the number of association management committee members and the ratification of an earlier move to have the Canterbury Women's Football Association as an associate member of the C.F.A.
