World stars on Pot Black’

Eight of the worlds topclass snooker stars are once again competing for the Pot Black Trophy. The professional masters of the snooker tables are out to defeat the reigning champion of 1981, Cliff Thorburn. from Canada. Among those competing are five world champions — Thorburn. Alex Higgins from Northern Ireland. Ray Reardon from Wales, and Steve Davis and David Taylor, both from England. In the opening frame of the series the reigning champion meets Doug Mountjoy. Pot Black champion in 1978 and runner-up to Steve Davis in the 1982 world championship final.

The second game features two regular opponents. Eddie Charlton from Australia and Ray Reardon from Wales, who have had many close encounters over the past 10 years. Charlton defeated Reardon in the two Pot Black finals in 1972 and 1980. He also took the trophy in 1973. Reardon, six times world champion, won the first Pot Black contest in 1969 and again 10 years later.
