‘Deadly dull’ programmes
Radio programmes for children during the school holidays are abysmal, according to “Monitor," the newsletter produced by the group that campaigns for better broadcasting. “Holiday radio is still deadly dull," an article in the newsletter says. A letter from a member says that it is impossible to nominate a candidate for the best children's radio programme, because programmes on radio for children “are almost non-exis-tent." “The National pro-
gramme’s morning show in the school holidays is pathetic." the letter says. The article asks if Radio New Zealand plans to continue with the “insipid and dull" “Hodgy Podgy” programme. “All the children we have spoken to about this programme had little to say about it. Those who had listened in May didn’t bother to listen in August. They had been thoroughly put off?’ the article says. “It will take some effort on the part of Radio New Zealand to woo back a young audience." it says.
