Council yard for auction

The Christchurch City Council's South Belt Yard in Moorhouse Avenue will be sold by public auction next year. Several prospective buyers had already approached the council about the 8127 sq m property bounded by Moorhouse Avenue, Montreal Street, and St David Street, its works and traffic committee has been told. The property could be auctioned in May, after refuse workers shift to new staff facilities at the developing central works depot in Sydenham. Proceeds from the Moorhouse Avenue property sale would go to the yard and depot renewal fund. Councillors recommended the appointment of W. E. Simes and Company and Pacific Real Estate, Ltd, as joint agents for the sale. A reserve price on the property had not yet been determined.

The two real estate companies had actively marketed and sold council properties over recent years. Many of those properties had been difficult to sell because of their location and condition. Councillors recommended

a $35,499 contract for Laser Construction, Ltd, to do the central works depot staff facilities work for sanitation workers. The company submitted the lowest of six tenders ranging to $43,706. '
