Burnside cars damaged

Youthful vandals have damaged more than 35 cars in the Burnside Bowling Club’s car-piark recently. Seventeen cars had been damaged last Tuesday alone, said the president of . the club, Mr Rex Jones, yesterday. i In many cases, name badges, chrome strips, and other body fittings had been removed.

Mr Jones said that the culprits were believed to be aged about 13 to 14. The club had a big membership, and so there were usually plenty of cars in the car-park adjoining the greens in Burnside Park. “There is also plenty of cover for these children to come and go. We have had the police out here three times, but they have not been able to find anyone,” said Mr

Jones. The damage to most cars ranged from $5O to $l5O, he said. It was hardly worth claiming insurance in some cases, where excess and loss of no-claim bonuses were taken into account. Mr Jones appealed to anyone who might have seen children or youths acting suspiciously in the car-park to get in touch with the club or the Hornby police.
