House sitings questioned
The Hoon Hay site for two houses from Twizel did not seem large enough to allow outside space for families, a Christchurch City councillor has said. Although the space squeeze in Redgrave Street might be eased by the nearness of Hoon Hay Park and Rowley Primary School, Cr A. G. James wondered if the situation would be the same for Twizel houses being located in other parts of the city. “Too much of the site is covered,” he said. “There is nowhere for children to play.” Two houses had been
set on one section with only a garage separating them. The houses., are being resettled by the Housing Corporation from the Waitaki hydro project. ’ The section is the ordinary size for one house. Cr James said the houses were also sited badly for the sun. He told the City .Council’s community services committee that he would take the matter up with the townplanning committee to determine whether the Crown was allowed to use more of a site than usual for buildings.
