Mister Wood Chips to atone for first night loss

Special correspondent Wellington Mister Wood Chips, fourth when a warm favourite on Wednesday, should atone for that failure in the Bayer Rintal Free-for-all. first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt park this evening. The track record holder for the distance of the Bayer (2400 m i. Mister Wood Chips tried to lead his rivals all the way on the first night but was found wanting in the final 100 m. That race should improve him and with a handy draw at No. 5 he should be able to improve on his first night form. Crafty Fella, second to Take Aim on Wednesday, and Vienna Charm look the main dangers. Crafty ’ Fella finished stoutly after losing a handyplace with 500 m to run on the first night. He has the ability to win this but seldom runs two races alike. Vienna Charm is certain to improve with her first night race. It was her first for several weeks and the fast pace set on Wednesday will have worked a treat with her. Vienna Charm made a sweeping run to join the leaders with 400 m to run. only to run out of condition in the last 200. Dreamy Dragon was a good third on Wednesday and his prospects should not be underrated, while Lanark is another who could show improvement after his firstnight effort. Joy Boy looks set to collect another win in the Lower Hutt City Free-for-all. the second leg of the double. This will be his first race this season but he has been to the fore in trials in the south and won his last race of the old season at Addington Raceway. Roydon ' Magic found Smooth Heir too strong on the first night but could go closer here. The well-bred gelding has drawn wide but should still be close at the finish. Goldie Be Good's finishing run to take third was a feature of the second leg on Wednesday and if he can be placed a "little closer in the running this evening he. too, must rate strong consideration.
