Maritime ship’s last Lyttelton call
When the general cargo ship Waitaki calls at Lyttelton on December 10. it will probably be her last visit as a vessel of Maritime Carriers. Ltd. Chances are the Waitaki will be chartered by the Union Shipping Group, which has expressed interest in Maritime's ships after the company said recently it would close.’ Mr J. N. Keegan, managing director of the Union Shipping Group, said yesterday the two companies were still discussing the Waitaki's charter. However, both Mr Keegan and a spokesman for Maritime felt the companies would be able to reach an agreement soon. The Maritime spokesman said the Waitaki still had one voyage to make before the company closed. She was at present loading at Sydney, and would unload this i cargo at Wellington and Lyttelton. She would then return to Aus- • tralia with a shipment of maize, | reload there, and make her final voyage to New Zealand as a Maritime ship. It is not known at this stage ' what the Union Company has planned for the Waitaki. which has called regularly at Lyttelton , as part of her Tasman run. ARRIVALS Nil.
