Australian market
Australian share prices closed steady in line with opening levels, with resource stocks firmer and industrials tending easier. Brokers reported overseas interest in base metal stocks and banks, with 80,000 National Bank shares traded. The All-Ordinaries index closed 0.4 points up at 486.3, while the All-Industrials fell 0.7 points to 616.7, and the All-Resources index rose 1.4 points to 381.1. BHP eased 2c to 644 c. Rises included WMC, 7c to 320 c, Peko 10c to 510 c, CRA 4c to 380 c, MIM 5c to 357 c and Bougainville 4c to 174 c. Industrials stocks generally recorded minor variations.
