‘Keep fit’ was too stressful
NZPA England Forty fat women have shaken the Penzance town hall to its foundations. Members of a keep-fit class known as the “Penzance Podgers” (total weight about three tonnes andslowly dropping) have seriously overstressed the town hall floor timbers with their jumping up and down, say officials. The bill to repair the damage will run into thou-
sands of pounds. The first to notice ominous rumblings were staff of the births, deaths and marriages department, directly below the Podgers’ exercise room. “The building shook and groaned three times a week when they were up there,” said a staff member. Now the women, mostly housewives, have been moved to the ground floor ... just in case.
