Assault on youths admitted
A man, who admitted assaulting two youths in Avonside Drive and stealing two wristlet watches and a jacket from them, was committed by Judge Bradford and remanded in custody to December 6. ■ ■
Sergeant J. E. Dwyer said in the District Court yesterday that the two youths, aged 16 and 17, were stopped by Whetu’ Amai, aged 19, and another man, as they were walking home from a social function on November 21. Amai took the watch and jacket, valued at $135, from one youth and on being told by the other that he had no money, Amai slapped his face and kicked him in the stomach.
He then took the other watch, valued at $2O, said Sergeant Dwyer.
GIRL FINED A girl, who admitted refusing to leave the Wizards Amusement Centre when told to do so by a security guard was convicted and fined $5O. Sergeant Dwyer said that Margaret Jean Williams, aged 17, unemployed, had been seen drinking beer, and smoking in the centre. The security guard had told her to leave and she refused. Williams had struggled violently with the security guard and the police were called, Sergeant Dwyer said. ROBBERY CHARGE Three youths charged with robbing a man of $7 were remanded in custody without plea to December 6. They are Karl Tuhou, aged 19, unemployed, Damien Lee. Hallett, aged 18, a scriibcutter, and Daniel Maitai
Tinirau, aged 17, a student. They are charged with robbing Kenneth Paul Sheppard on November 27. Bail was opposed by Sergeant Dwyer and the application was dealt with in chambers. ARMS CHARGE A man charged with presenting a .22 calibre air rifle at Brian Roger Phillipson at Pines Beach on November 26 was remanded to December 6 on bail of $2OOO, No plea was entered, by Gerry Cardinelli, aged 23, who was granted bail of $lOOO with a surety of the same amount. r SHOPLIFTING Two young unemployed women who stole $BOl worth of property from a variety of shops were convicted and remanded to December 13 for probation reports and
sentence. Bridget Robyn Adair, aged .17, had admitted stealing property, valued at $463 from 11 shops while Angela Marie Alsop admitted stealing $338 worth of property from eight different shops. Property stolen by the pair was mostly women's and childrens clothing, Sergeant Dwyer said. All the offences took place between September 16 and 23.. Sergeant Dwyer said that on September 23 the two defendants were seen to take books irom . a . Christchurch shop. When apprehended outside they were each found to be in £ possession of' other stolen property-.. Sergeant Dwyer said that compensation of $7O was sought from Adair and $6B from Aslop. '
