Peter Blake honoured
PA Wellington The round the world, race yacht skipper, Peter Blake, has been awarded the Bernard Fergusson Trophy for the 1982 “Yachtsman of the Year.”
Mr A. J. Beckett, secretary of the New Zealand Yachting Federation, said that the Governor-General, Sir David Beattie, would present the trophy to Blake at a special function some time in January. He said Blake's nomination was made within the criteria of outstanding feats of seamanship exemplified through his racing Ceramco New Zealand 4000 miles under jury rig after its dismantling in the South Atlantic — an epic in the history of ocean racing.
