Pokere confused

PA Auckland Steven Pokere, of Southland, the Maori rugby midfield wizard, arrived home yesterday predicting his career next season would be absolute confusion. He said he couln’t decide whether he preferred centre or second five-eighths: “At the moment I am totally confused about which is my better position. I guess I have matured a lot, and gained confidence. Playing with Arthur Stone really’ helps, too.” Stone, another of the Maoris’ mid-field successes, does not have the answer to

the Pokere riddle: “I had a much better tour than with the All Blacks , last year and early last season," said Stone. “I was fitter, and sharper. “Playing with Steve is great. We talk a lot and work things out. We do not really play our moves off the cuff.”

A third Maori back, Eddie Dunn, is considering retiring from top rugby: “There will only be club rugby for me next season,” said Dunn. “I have had a good spell at the top. I will wait and see, but that is how I am thinking at the moment.”
