NZPA . Brisbane “I am a Christian and -I give thanks to God for my talents,” said Australia’s new batting star, Kepler Wessels, yesterday,' . Wessels, who top scored with 162 in Australia's first innings, blessed himself when reaching 50, 100 and 150 during his long innings that lasted more than 7Vz hours. “I don’t ask God to let me score runs, but I thank Him when I do,” said the 25-year-old former South African.
i On Saturday Wessels joined an elite band of century makers in their test ■ debuts when he reached 105 , not out at stumps. The elegant Queensland left-hander became eligible to play for Australia this i season after moving to Brisi bane four years ago. Wessels denied reports that he would return to live . .’in South Africa when his i . cricketing days were over: “I am an Australian and I’m here for keeps,” he said.
