Rape trial
Sir, — As there appears to be no doubt that the Highway 61 gang did actually batter, assault and rape their victim in their so-called . clubrooms, why then were all present not held responsible; after all this woman was viciously assaulted and not only raped and club members must have stood by and witnessed these acts without doing anything to stop the assaults. A horror story such as this, had it happened to a male, would have had . a vastly different effect on an all-male jury .and the judge. Perhaps their next victim will be a male. I consider, as a human being who cares for the plight of others, a miscarriage of justice has occurred in that no women were on the jury and that such monstrous acts can go unpunished. It is obvious that the execution of our laws is only as good, in cases such as this, as the people who manipulate them. — Yours, etc., ' G. J. PROCTER. November 25, 1982.
