17 grants awarded
Parliamentary reporter Seventeen environmental grants worth almost $45,000 were made in the last financial year, the Minister for the Environment, Mr Shearer, has told Parliament. Fifteen recipients of the grants were groups and two were individuals, he said. There were always many more requests for grants than could be funded, he said. The applications received last year had asked for a total of $201,000. The amount available for the environmental grants had remained at about the same level recently, although this year it had been cut by $3OOO. This was in line with the Government’s aim to get a 3 per cent cut in spending.
