Shortage of water
Householders on the Lyttelton Borough Council water supply are being asked to try to conserve water and not use garden hoses. Some householders in Lyttelton and Diamond Harbour face a severe water ageThe problem was caused by a leaking supply pipe, combined with high demand for water, on Friday morning. This has left one of the council’s water-storage areas virtually empty. “We would ask Lyttelton. Diamond Harbour. and Heathcote Valley residents to refrain from using garden hoses until the situation improves." said the Borough Engineer. Mr J. H. Christensen. How soon the situation improved depended on the weather and the efforts; made by residents to conserve water, he said.
