Accountant to stand trial
PA Auckland A Remuera chartered accountant and his secretary have been committed for trial in the High Court at Auckland on charges of theft by misappropriation and failing to account.. A District Court hearing was told that a total of nearly $500,000 was alleged to have been involved. They are Kenneth Douglas Mexted, aged 38, and Lorraine Ivy Heskett, aged 38, also of Remuera. Mexted pleaded not guilty to 54 charges: 35 of theft by misappropriation, four of
theft by failing to account, six of falsely circulating documents, and nine of false pretence. Heskett denied 24 jointly laid charges: 19 of theft by misappropriation, one of theft by failing to account, and four of circulating false documents. Messrs L. Warren and W. H. Christmas, Justices of the Peace, remanded Mexted on $12,000 bail, with two sureties of $12,000 each, to February 16 for a trial date to be set. Heskett was remanded to the same date on $5OO bail.
