The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Parliament sat at 9.30 a.m. yesterday when the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Trade, Mr Thomson, tabled four papers. They were amendments to the convention of inter-gov-ernmental maritime consultative organisation, the convention on investment disputes between States and nations of other States, and exchange of letters with Australia on tariffs and tariffs preferences, and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade on import licensing procedures. Mr G. E. Lee (Nat.. Hauraki) tabled a notice of motion. Ministers answered 16 questions. The Building Societies Amendment Bill was introduced by the Minister of Finance. Mr Muldoon, and was referred to the Commerce and Energy'; Select Committee. The Defence Select Committee reported back that the petition of Terence Rugg did not comply with standing orders and had not been considered. Third readings were given the National Provident Fund Amendment Bill, the Land Transfer Amendment Bill (No. 2), the Architects Amendment Bill, the Insurance Companies Deposits Amendment. Bill, the Friendly Societies and Credit Unions Bill, the Local Legislation Bill, and the Domestic Protection Bill. The Local Authorities Loans Amendment Bill and the Finance Bill were both committed after the Opposition had lost an amendment to the .Local Authorities Loans Amendment Bill, 3335, on a division. The Maori Purposes Bill and the Primary Products Marketing Regulations Con-, firmation Bill were given second readings. The second reading of the Fertilisers Bill was interrupted when the House rose at 1 p.m.
