•7 Sc 3 . DEAR READER, We certainly started something in promoting the first “LAVENDER and LACE” auction in Canterbury (or New Zealand for that matter) didn’t we? Our patrons have never ceased talking about it. “When will you be having another?” is the constant cry. Well! I’ll tell you: THURSDAY NEXT. DECEMBER 2, at 10.30 a.m. in “GALLERY TWO,” 169 Gloucester Street. I thought the first display of such lovely things outstanding, but wait until you see this one. It’s breathtaking. Instead of pictures the walls of “Gallery Two” are adorned with courtly garments of earlier days; Victorian, Edwardian and through to the thirties. Lingerie, wedding gowns (including one fashioned on Norma Shearer’s bridal frock), baby gowns, French bead-trimmed flapper’s frocks, party dresses, capes, shawls, accessories, inserts, elbow length gloves, boned velvet jacket, ■ pretty hats, boots, shoes, smart handbags, mantillas, collars and such like, making a glorious show. The dolls, teddies and toys on view, both mechanical and animated are a delight. There are games too. Do you remember “Happy Families”? (What fun!) Toy piano, and if mum can take it, tin whistles, set doll’s kitchenware, 16in doll with four faces. a d HI k fill® • v ; weH Ob AREN’T THEY LOVELY? The entry of hand and machine made laces, crochet, beadwork, needlework and accessories, work baskets, millinery equipment, etc. is particularly exciting. Don’t miss seeing this. As you would expect in a sale of this nature there are many unusual items: a Hohner mouth organ and a tambourine, leather diary aboard ship R.M.S. Athenic 1906, tall shiner, books, needlework post cards, stereoscope, fans, parasols, smoker’s caps, small silver clock, jewellery, and goodness knows what. Anyway, come.and have a look, even if nostalgic. It’s a sight for sore eyes. You’re sure to be impressed. Catalogues are available. Only 50 cents. Proceeds to Mary Potter Hospital. •— R.G.B. R. G. BELL AND CO., AUCTIONEERS OF LOVELY THINGS IN “GALLERY TWO” 169 GLOUCESTER STREET NEXT THURSDAY AT 10.30
