Protected trees stay on list
Five trees at the Christchurch Club in Worcester Street and Latimer Square will remain protected under a Planning Tribunal decision. The club had wanted four sycamores and a pin oak removed from the Christchurch City Council District Scheme protection list so that they could be removed if the club wanted to redevelop the site. There-was no present intention to remove the trees. The tribunal said the District Scheme had adequate safeguards to,, enable the trees’ owners to obtain removal consent if the trfees were dying or causing a nuisance, or in the event of proposals to redevelop the site.
In the meantime, all five trees had scenic value and were worthy of protection, the'tribunal said. • ...-
The sycamores are about--100 years old and could live for about another 50 years, and the pin oak is about 50 years old. ‘ •
