Monopolies predicted in C.E.R.
PA Wellington Parts of the horticultural industry and fruit and vegetable industries could be wrecked by closer economic relations with Australia, says Social Credit. The party’s spokesman on agriculture, Mr Derek Mason, said that millions of dollars were tied up in these industries, which were vulnerable to market fluctuations. The C.E.R. proposals provided “a climate for monopolies to develop,” with carefully timed bulk imports hitting the New Zealand market at its most vulnerable times, he said. New Zealand suppliers would go to the wall and the public would be badly'served by a monopolist Australian bulk supplier, Mr Mason said.
