Science centre idea for Chch

Christchurch should have a science centre, a meeting of the Canterbury Promotion Council has been told. Mr Ben Galbraith, a guest speaker from the Astronomical Society, outlined a proposal for a science centre in the city. Mr Galbraith is secretary of a steering committee, set up by the council to investigate the idea. ' A centre, based on the Exploratorium set up in San Francisco by Frank Oppenheimer, was suggested as a model for Christchurch. The San Francisco Exploratorium includes a biology section, a laser booth, complete with demonstration, and electricity and light wizardry. Mr Galbraith hopes that the council will consider a feasibility project on the centre.
