C.N.G. policy broken, says Labour
PA Wellington The Government has been accused of breaking “the only firm policy” in its election energy policy last year by lowering its C.N.G. conversion target. The original target of converting 150,000 vehicles to compressed natural gas by 1985 has been changed to 200,000 vehicles by 1990.
Labour’s energy spokesman, Mr D. F. Caygill (St Albans) said yesterday that the lowered target was “the second broken promise on that specific policy,” after the failure to meet targets of 100 C.N.G. filling stations and 20,000 conversions by last, Christmas.
