Expectation ran a sound trial for the Churton Handicap at Trentham tomorrow in his final gallop at Awapuni yesterday morning. l The two-year-olds, Celia Leigh anjd Norfolk Morn, also showed their fitness for the Kingston Handicap. Galloping was done on the plough, which was in good order.
Expectation ran solo over 1000 m in Imin ss, the last 600 m in 39.55. He was second at Woodville and his appearance suggests that a big run will be forthcoming tomorrow.
The Crofter, which will race at Masterton on Tuesday went an even 1200 m in Imin 265, each section taking 435. His form showed sharp improvement at Woodville and Wanganui, where he was ■placed each time. Fast Track and Head Shepherd worked keenly over
1200 m in Imin 18.25, the last 600 m in 40.45. Fast Track will contest the Terrace Highweight in which he has the first run from Margaret Bull’s stable. Head Shepherd will go to Masterton. Celia Leigh and Equaliser showed their usual zest in running 800 m in 49.75, the last 600 m in 37.55. A race rival, Norfolk Morn, ran 600 m in 40s. Super Tai, which is getting ready for Christmas racing took 53s for 800 m, the last 600 m in 39.55. Secrecy was not asked for her best in sprinting 800 m in 53.65, the last 600 m in 39.45. She will get her chance in the Lightning Handicap over 1000 m. Regal Corinda indicated her fitness for Mastertonn with a smart 800 m in 51.45, the last. 600 m in 38.65. Sovereign’s Ace was back on the track after an operation to remove some growths about the eye. He is likely to be on hand for racing at Awapuni over the holidays.
