NZPA London A coup attempt in Ghana has been crushed and the country has been put under an overnight curfew, according to an official announcement broadcast by Accra radio yesterday. The Ghanaian leader, Flight-Lieutenant Jerry
Rawlings, said in a statement monitored by the British Broadcasting Corporation that “loyal troops have successfully defeated . an attempt to overthrow this regime, and this began yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.” Flight-Lieutenant Rawlings, chairman of the Provisional National Defence
Council, ordered “misguided individuals still on the run to . surrender to the nearest police station.” He announced a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. ■ daily, and said that the West African. State’s borders and international airport would be closed until further notice.
