Mr R. W. Prebble (Lab, Auckland Central) was sent to the Privileges Committee for allegedly misleading the House. The Speaker ruled that a prima facie . case existed against Mr Prebble. The Opposition lost a division, 35-38, on whether the matter should be referred to the committee. The two Social Credit members abstained. The Leader of the House, Mr Thomson, tabled the agreement on interpretation and application of articles VI, XVI, XXIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (G.A.T.T.).

Mr Thomson also tabled an exchange, on notes between New Zealand and the United States to amend the agreement of March 20,1970, relating to certificates of airworthiness for imported aircraft.

Members tabled seven notices of motion. Ministers answered 18 questions. The, District Courts Amendment No. 2 Bill, the Summary Proceedings Amendment Bill, and the Contracts (Privity) Bill were reported back, with amendments, from the Statutes Revision Committee. The Commerce and Energy Select Committee reported back a petition from Marie Rice and 16 others relating to the sale of farm eggs, with the recommendation that it be given consideration.

The Accident Compensation Bill was reported back from the Labour and Education Select Committee, with amendments, after a 37-36 division.

The House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Government won a division, 37-36, to take urgency. The Customs Acts Amendment Bill was given a third reading. A 37-37 vote was recorded on the second reading of the Local Authorities Loans Amendment Bill, the measure proceeding on the casting vote of the Speaker. The, Finance Bill was given- a second reading. The National Provident Fund Amendment Bill, the Real Estate Agents Amendment Bill, the Architects Amendment Bill, and the Insurance Companies Deposits Amendment Bill were committed.

The Friendly Societies and Credit Unions Bill was committed, on a 39-37 division, and the Local Legislation Bill was committed.

Parliament planned to pass the Sale of Liquor Amendment Bill before it rose. Members began to debate the contentious measure, which is subject to a conscience .vote, at 11.20 p.m., and were expected to continue well after midnight.
