Higher octane rating
Parliamentary reporter Regular petrol with an 83 octane rating should be replaced with 91 octane petrol by October next year, the Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, has told Parliament. Mr Birch announced five
weeks ago that 83 octane regular petrol would be progressively withdrawn and replaced with 91 octane petrol. This week he said he expected the change-over to be finished .by next October. Discussions with oil companies to determine the precise date were continuing. The oil companies were responsible for any alterations needed at individual service stations. Most of the changes should have been made by the time the 91 octane petrol was introduced.
