Obituary Mr Denis Ryall
Greymouth reporter Mr Denis James Ryall, a former long-serving Grey County councillor .and chairman, died in Christchurch onTiiesday. .. '■ Mr Ryall, who had been living in retirement at Rangiora. since < 1974, had been a member of the Grey County Council from 1953, and had completed a 94-year family .association with that local body; . - : His grandfather, Mr Denis Ryall sen. had been elected to the county . council representing the northern riding in
1881 and remained a member until his death in 1904. He was succeeded by his son, Mr John Ryall, who served for 48 years on the council, being in. turn succeeded by Mr Denis Ryall. Dtiring.his term, from 1953 to 1974, Mr Denis' Ryall served five terms as chairman. He was also a former chairman of the No. 12 District Roads Council, and of the district counties ward. Mr Ryall, who was a Justice of the Peace, farmed the family property at Barrytown until his retirement. He is survived by his wife.
