Duplex Hanover in form for Geraldine meeting

, Duplex Hanover, Royal Skipper, The Stag and Spangled Pride enhanced their prospects for the Geraldine Trotting Club’s meeting at Orari on Saturday, with winning runs at the Addington trials., yesterday. ■ Duplex Hanover, a winner .(three Starts back, recorded a ’useful, trial for the DB Geral'dirie Trust Cup when she won the C3-C7 pacers’ heat. ' The Scottish Hanover mare , was handy in the open over'/the final. 1200 m and wore down the pacemaker, Capri, by a nose. She returned 3min 29s for the 2600 m, the leaders pacing their closing 800 m in 59.75, and final 400 in 28.15.

Capri, awaiting re-entry in the Geraldine Cup, was an improver’s second, a length in front of Nevele Ara, which made ground well. Royal Skipper, fifth at Addington-Raceway last Saturday, led over the final 1200 m of the Cl and C2 pacers’ heat to win in 3min 28.65, the last 800 in 60.8 s and closing 400 in 30.85. A candidate for the first leg of the T.A.B. treble at Geraldine, Royal Skipper won by a length an a quarter from Dormouse, which fought on after being handy in the open over the last round;

Anytime Now, which received a good run on the outer over the last round, was riot pushed to hold third, a neck away. The Stag finished fast to win the C2-C4 trotters’ trial,

returning 3min 32.1 s for the 2600 m, and could upset in the Stewards Trot Handicap. Back to the home turn, he finished far too well for the opposition, beating Crib Creek, handy throughout, by two .lengths. Batal, which led, then trailed, was half a length back, third, with Studious, which broke' early, fourth. Spangled Pride finished well. from midfielcTto win the CO and Cl trotters’ heat by a head from Hohonu, taking 3min 33s for the’26oom. The Felix Newfield-trained stablemates, Santolina Bay and Gay Peter, ran out easy winners, of their respective maiden heats, while Barbara Streisand won the other maiden heat just as impressively. Rocking Time showed up as a promising juvenile with a smart win in the first heat for two-year-olds. Back Early, the Ivan Schwammtrained representative swept to the lead near the 400 m and won untested by a head in 2min 44.8 s for the 2000 m, the last 800 in Imin 2s. and final 400 in 29.85. Harvest Gold, an unlikely starter in the Waihi Handicap at Orari, held out the determined finish of Gateau by a head in the three-year-olds’ heat.

Harvest Gold set the pace throughout, returning 59.8 s for the final 800 m and 28.8 s for the last quarter. Doljttle, which recorded 3min 13.45, was the fastest of 18 pacers to qualify. Trained by Jack Crofts, he came on to win narrowly from Skid

Kid. The early hot pace was set by Idyll Garrison, which broke near the 600 m and came again to finish fourth. The Buzzard, a four-year-old by Tactile from Christine Hall, gained one of the easiest wins of the day in his heat, beating Boyden’s Lass by more than six lengths in 3min 13.85. The Buzzard is trained by Kevin Ryder. Rona’s Pride, a three-year-old filly by Game Pride from Sarona, showed ability when she won her qualifying heat for trotters in 3min 38.8 s for the 2600 m. This member of Maurice O’Leary’s team, won narrowly from Catalpa, the only other trotter to qualify. A 2min mile looked likely when Onedin Star went over the opening half in 595, in the mobile mile trials, but the winner, Local Mist, returned 2min 0.7 s when she won by a head from a solid finisher in Fanfaron. The other mile event was won by Where Else by a head from Lord Legend in a slow 2min 5.15. Results:
