Hunt to drill again in 1983
PA Wellington The Hunt International Petroleum Company will launch another oil search in the Great South Basin next year, using the semi-sub-mersible rig Penrod 78. A team of engineers and geologists will arrive in New Zealand early next month to begin working towards a mid-1983 drilling start, according to a statement by the Hunt manager. Mr Robert M. Sanford, of Dallas. Texas.
A five-year licence for the basin area was issued last April, calling for the drilling of at least two wildcat wells by April, 1985. The Penrod 78 rig, believed to be larger than the Penrod 74 rig used by the company in its drilling between 1975 and 1977, has been under construction in Japan for the last two years. Mr Sanford said it had special design features for drilling in the Great South Basin's extreme sea conditions and 1000 m depth.
