Helicopter pilot killed
PA New Plymouth A Stratford man was killed when the helicopter he was piloting crashed east of Stratford, at 8.50 a.m. yesterday. He was _ Patrick David Lonergan, aged about 30, who was employed by Wanganui Aero Work.
It is believed Mr Lonergan was landing his Hiller 12E piston-engined helicopter to take on more fertiliser when the accident happened. The helicopter then crashed to the ground, throwing the pilot clear, and rolled over about 20 times before blowing up. Debris was scattered over a wide area.
