Top field for N.Z. Oaks
The crack Southland bitch, Cecily Mae, heads a quality field for Thursday night’s New Zealand Oaks final, to be contested in Invercargill. Returning home from a luckless New Zealand championship bid in Christchurch last Friday evening, Cecily Mae atoned in no uncertain fashion in her Oaks heat on Sunday, clocking an impressive 34.41 s for the 569 m.
The three Canterbury entrants, Humbug Lass, Rally And Rool and Bourbon Lass, have all drawn favourably, but from box No. 7. Cecily Mae appears near-invincible. The field for the $l5OO 1982 New Zealand Oaks (569 m is:— Humbug Lass 1, Rally And Rool 2, Bourbon Lass 3, Lady Acclaim 4, Lucy Havoc 5, Parachute Queen 6, Cecily Mae 7, Transit Melody 8.
