Trouble spots

Sir,-Susan Taylor. (November 15) neglected to say that in addition to preparing American public opinion for military actions “necessary against Cuba,” America has apparently begun that action, for in the first six months of Ronald Reagan’s presidency, Cuba-suf-fered a number of calamities, all within America’s capability. After the Bay of Pigs invasion of 1961 and attempts to murder Castro, anti-Communist Cuban exiles based on private property in the United States, and therefore untouchable, carried out 30 sabotage attacks on Cuba. Blue mould wiped out the tobacco crop. Rust seriously damaged sugar production. African swine fever decimated the pig population. Three hundred thousand Cubans contracted dengue fever and 130 died. In addition, spillage from oil tankers passing unusually close “just happened” to destroy Cuba’s best lobster farms. - Yours, etc., C. McCORMICK. November 16, 1982.
